Recanati is a real gem in the heart of the Marche Region, surrounded by Monte Conero, the Adriatic Sea and the Sibillini Mountains. An authentic jewel kept in the ancient city walls, standing on top of a ridge with a wonderful view of soft slopes rich in vineyards, olive groves and rolling hills. In this place, poetry, music, art, history and culture are linked and merged all together. During your trip in Recanati you can't absolutely miss these ten things:

1. LEOPARDI'S HOUSE AND THE HOUSE OF SILVIA

Top ten things not to miss in Recanati - Part I

Palazzo Leopardi is the Birthplace of Giacomo and home of the Leopardi family since the thirteenth century. On the first floor there is the library, largely curated by Monaldo, Giacomo's father, and made up of an extraordinary collection of books with about twenty thousand volumes.

It is here that Giacomo Leopardi was formed during his childhood and youth and where he spent most of his time in his "studio matto e disperatissimo" ("mad and most desperate" studies"). "Ove Abitai Fanciullo" ("Where I As An Adolescent Lived") is the name of the indipendent tour through the halls of the palaces, the gallery with its art collections, the garden that inspired the immortal verses of Le Ricordanze ("The remembrance") and the apartments of Leopardi. The basement houses the Leopardi Museum about the life of the poet with a permanent exhibition of objects and memorabilia, including the inkwell with which it was written The Infinite. Next to the Museum are the Historical Cellars and in front of the palace the Ancient Stables with the House of Silvia on the first floor which can also be visited and consists of some small rooms with antique furnitures.

Here, where children and young people used to gather to spend joyfully the day before Saturday's holiday - «I fanciulli gridando su la piazzuola in frotta, e qua e là saltando, fanno un lieto romore» (The small boys shouting in troops about the village square go leaping hither and thither and make a cheerful noise )» - you can also admire the majestic Church of Santa Maria di Montemorello.

The Church of Sant' Agostino is another typically Leopardian place. During the following century were made the first remakes. The ornaments of the altars are marbles and altarpieces of great value made by artists such as Filippo Bellini, Pier Simone Fanelli and Felice Damiani. You can also admire the remains of frescoes by Giacomo di Nicola da Recanati. The portal of the church was designed by Giuliano da Majano (1485) while the interior was rebuilt at the end of the seventeenth century and designed by Ferdinando Galli da Bibbiena.
